Description:
A World War I soldier stands in uniform with his proper right hand on his hip touching a gun belt, and his proper left hand on the barrel of his rifle, the butt of which rests by his feet. He wears a helmet, an open-collared shirt with sleeves rolled to the elbows, leggings, and a canteen on his rear proper right hip. A bag is slung over his proper right shoulder and rests on his proper left hip. The soldier is mounted upon a multitiered base with inscriptions on all sides.

Remarks:
Commemorates the soldiers and sailors who died in World War I. Monument was erected and dedicated by Paduke Post 31 of the
American
Legion. The City of Paducah appropriated $1,950 for the monument and burial grounds, with matching funds appropriated by the McCracken County Fiscal Court. The monument was cast by the
American
Bronze
Company
, and erected by the Beasley Monument
Company
. IAS files contain a full transcription of names on base. IAS files contain a Paducah ordinance from August, 1928, which contains appropriations information and specifications for the monument.
