Description:
Uniformed World War I soldier stands on a square base. The figure's open proper right hand is raised and a rifle in held in his proper left hand. The uniform includes a tin hat and backpack. Plaques on the base honor soldiers of both World Wars.

Remarks:
Lighting was installed by the City in 1993 when a local veterans group relandscaped the area around the sculpture.
The sculpture was formerly identified "The Spirit of the
American
Doughboy." In 2009, the sculpture was identified as John Paulding's "Over the Top to Victory" (model 2043-B) by Les Kopel. At times, a grenade has been added to the figure's raised proper right hand.
