    Remarks: 
    John McArthur commanded the 6th Division of the Seventeenth Army Corps as Brigadier General. As Colonel he commanded the 12th Illinois Infantry from May 2, 1861 to August 1, 1861. As Brigadier General he commanded the U.S. Volunteers on March 21, 1862. He was later promoted to Major General. He was honorably mustered out on August 24, 1865. Erected by the State of Illinois. The monument is on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures (LCS no. 03328). IAS files contain a copy of the LCS report form.
