    Painting was listed as "An Equestrian Group of Confederate Leaders" by an unknown artist in the Dayton Art Institute Bulletin, vol. 18, no. 2, 1959, no. 12. In the Dayton Art Institute Bulletin, J.E. B. Stuart was identified as one of the generals, but in 1996 this identification was changed to Turner Ashby by the West Point Museum.
