    Description: 
    A standing figure of a fireman rests top a granite base with an inscription encircled by the image of a fire hose. The fireman's proper left hand rests on his belt and a rope with hooks hangs on his proper right side. The fireman is dressed in the full firefighter's uniform, but instead of boots he wears shoes, a source of much controversy at the time.

    Remarks: 
    In 1928 the Permanent Firemen's Association appointed a committee which invited the Granite Manufacturers Association to submit designs for a memorial to be placed on the Firemen's lot in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery. Architect Florence McAuliffe was chosen to do the design and Lewis White of West Quincy was selected to supply the granite. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form C - Monuments questionnaire dated July 1, 1986.
