    Description: 
    Two plaques affixed to the wall of the courthouse. The plaque at the left depicts early scenes from Lane County's history including: storm clouds, an eagle, a buffalo, a steam engine train, a pioneer church building, a man breaking sod with an oxen-drawn plow, and a frontierswoman with two children collecting vegetables from a garden. The plaque at the right depicts present day scenes: a jet plane, a grain elevator, a modern train, a semi-truck, an oil rig, a combine harvesting wheat, cattle, a modern church and home buildings, and a family and a dog near a pickup truck.

    Commissioned to celebrate the Lane County, Kansas, 1986 centennial. $1,700 in funding was raised by the Arts Council. One plaque depicts scenes from Lane County circa 1886; the other plaque depicts scenes from Lane County in 1986.
