    Description: 
    A bust of J. M. Jackson. Jackson has a long flowing beard, which falls to his upper chest. He wears a coat with large lapels, open at the neck, exposing a vest and high-collared shirt. The bust is mounted on a stone column, which in turn sits in the upper basin of a fountain. Around the column, four dolphins (symbolic of the seas and heavens) spout water.

    Remarks: 
    IAS files contain related article from Parkersburg Sentinel (Parkersburg, WV), Jan. 18, 1902, pg. 1-3, and correspondence (dated Jan. 11, 1992) from Wood County Commission's County Clerk. The monument commemorates James Monroe Jackson (1825-1901), a judge and a prominent citizen of Parkersburg. The fountain was presented to the city by Jackson's children, James Monroe Jackson Jr., Mrs. Mary Rathbone, and Mrs. James Moffatt.
