    Description: 
    A bust of Hernando De Soto in a helmet adorned with a plume on the proper right side. De Soto is depicted with a beard and wearing armor. The sculpture is mounted atop a wall-like upper base that sits within a walled lower base that serves as a planter. A plaque on the front of the upper base bears a coat of arms in relief. There are spotlights at the front corners of the planter.

    Remarks: 
    The bust of Hernando De Soto (ca. 1495-1542), a 16th century Spanish explorer, was created as part of Savannah's Columbian Quincentennial. IAS files contain the artist's sketch of sculpture, dated Oct. 23, 1991, which contains detailed dimensions for bust. Allen Mason was the original sketch designer.
