Remarks:
The memorial cost an estimated $7,000 to 10,000. The figure stood on top of the pedestal until Dec. 1990 when it was felled by a tornado, leaving it decapitated and partly dismembered. The head was found and reattached. The proper right arm, which had pointed skyward, and portions of the wings were not recovered. IAS files include a related article from the Conservator (Carrollton, MS), Jan. 17, 1991 and excerpts from "Vaiden Heritage," (Florence, MS: Messenger Press, 1976,) which contains images of the sculpture before the storm.
