    Description: 
    The monument depicts a soldier striding forward and carrying his rifle horizontally in front of him. He holds the rifle with both hands and steps forward with his proper right foot. He is dressed in his uniform which consists of a shirt with the sleeves rolled up, pants tucked into his boots, and a broad-brimmed hat. His gear hangs from straps that cross his body. The sculpture rests on a square granite base.

    The sculpture was erected by the Town of Stoneham in honor of the soldiers and sailors who served from 1898-1902. IAS files contain a copy of the dedication program which includes a list of the names that are inscribed on the base.
