Description:
A seated portrait of William Henry Warren Bicknell (1860-1947) at work on an etching in his studio, probably the studio he shared with
Stacy
Tolman
at 247 Washington Street in Boston. Bicknell is seen in profile seated hunched over a table beneath a skylight, a screen positioned to diffuse the light hangs at an angle over his work area. Bicknell is concentrating on an etching using a mirror propped up to reflect a book in front of him. On the table next to him there are bottles and a stack of finished prints. On the far right there is a printing press.
