    Description: 
    Installed high above the main entrance is a standing portrait of John Somers with his proper left foot extended toward his fellow eighteenth-century Englishman, Lord Mansfield, on his proper left. Somers is dressed in judicial robes and a wig. He holds his proper left hand up to his chest. He holds some documents in his proper right hand.

    Remarks: 
    One of six courthouse sculptures of men known for their development of law on English soil. The sculptures are installed on the cornice above the main entrance. Lord John Somers (1651-1716), as Lord Chancellor of England, instigated passage of the Declaration of Rights.

IAS files also contain unpublished material on the courthouse art work from the Cuyahoga County Commissioners Reference Library. Lehman & Schmidt were the architects of the courthouse.
