The sculpture was exhibited in "New York at the Jamestown Exposition" held in Norfolk, Virginia from April 26, 1907 to Dec. 1, 1907. It was also exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. from 1919 to 1922. In 1922, the sculpture was installed on the river side of the Jamestown island, but in 1931 it was moved to its current site when access to the island was changed. In its original location, the sculpture was installed on a tall square base, but now the sculpture rests on a flat boulder. IAS files contain an excerpt from Cuyler Reynolds' "New York at the Jamestown Exposition," Albany, NY: J. B. Lyon Company, 1909, pg. 169.
