    Remarks:
The sculptures were modeled separately and were cast by different foundries. Victoria was cast by Roman Bronze Works and Bessie was cast by Kunst Foundry. The artist modeled the Rhinoceros after a female Indian Rhino at the Bronx Zoo. In September 1988, the New York Zoological Society got permission from Harvard University to make two additional casts of the rhinos for the Bronx Zoo's newly restored Elephant and Rhino palace. IAS files contain 1933 correspondence between the artist and Harvard concerning the subject of the sculptures; 1988 correspondence between the New York Zoological Society and Harvard asking permission to make casts for the Bronx Zoo; and excerpts from The Harvard Crimson, May 13, 1937 and the Harvard Library Bulletin 21 (July 1973): pg. 271-276.
