(On plaque on front of base:) CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS/1451-1506/MATER CHRISTI COUNCIL 3352/KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS/DEDICATES THIS MONUMENT/OCTOBER 10, 1992/TO COMMEMORATE 500 YEARS OF/EVANGELIZATION IN THE AMERICAS/"ADMIRAL OF THE OCEAN SEA"/WHOSE FAITH AND COURAGE OF CONVICTION/MADE HIS DREAM A REALITY unsigned Founder's mark appears. Description:  Full-length portrait of Christopher Columbus. He wears period costume including a tunic, cape and hat. In his proper left hand he holds a scroll. His proper right hand rests on a globe. The globe stands on a pedestal directly in front of Columbus. Behind Columbus is a coil of rope and an anchor. The bronze sculpture stands on a mortared stone base. The sculpture was purchased from Italy. The sculpture was donated to the residents of Monroe by the Council.
