    Description: 
    A uniformed Civil War soldier stands with his proper right hand on his hip and his proper left hand holding the tip of his rifle by his proper left side, the butt resting by his foot. The soldier has a moustache and wears an overcoat with a short cape, a pouch is strapped on his proper right side. The sculpture is mounted a tall base adorned with small reliefs, including crossed cannons on one side. An open book is placed on a short pedestal in front of the monument. Monument is surrounded by a short chain fence, with two cannons placed just outside of it, one inscribed "POST 70 G.A.R."

    This monument commemorating Civil War soldiers was erected by the G.A.R. The inscription on a book in front of monument reads: In honor of Hiram Cory(sic) founder of our city. Presented by an American History group of the class of 1954.
