DUE TO THE BIGHORN'S RELATIVELY LOW/REPRODUCTIVE RATE, RESTRICTIVE HABITAT REQUIREMENTS, PROPEN-/SITY FOR DISEASE AND DESIRABILITY AS A SPORTING TROPHY, BIGHORN/SHEEP NUMBERS WERE GREATLY REDUCED THROUGH THE 1900S. AS/A RESULT OF RECENT POPULATION AND HABITAT MANIPULATIONS,/DISEASE RESEARCH AND CONTROLLED HUNTING, THE BIGHORN HAS/ACHIEVED INCREASES IN BOTH RANGE AND NUMBER.
THE EFFORTS OF THE ARIZONA DESERT BIGHORN SHEEP SOCIETY, WORKING IN COOPERATION WITH ARIZONA GAME AND FISH DEPARTMENT, HAVE BROUGHT THIS MAJESTIC NATIVE ANIMAL BACK FROM THE BRINK OF EXTINCTION./DEDICATED TO THE PRESERVATION OF/THE DESERT BIGHORN SHEEP OF ARIZONA AND THE SOUTHWEST/APRIL 14, 1990/(simplified outlines of three running bighorn sheep)/SOUTHWEST SAVINGS AND LOAN ASSOCIATION/FRIEDMAN TRUSTS SHIMIZU LAND CORPORATION/THE SYMINGTON COMPANY unsigned
Description:
Three male desert bighorn sheep on a synthetic stone base which rests in a roughly circular fountain. One sheep is placed higher than the other two, which are butting heads in a rutting display.

Remarks:
Commissioned by the Symington Company for the Esplanade development at Camelback and 24th Street. It was the first of several pieces of Arizona wildlife planned for the Symington Company development. The Save Outdoor Sculpture report notes that the piece was owned by a now-failed Savings and Loan.
