THE WINDOM UNIT OF THE/AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY AND/THE AMERICAN LEGION POST DONATE/THIS NEW ARCHWAY TO THE CITY OF/WINDOM PARK DEPARTMENT./THIS ARCHWAY IS MODELED AFTER THE/ORIGINAL, WHICH WAS ERECTED IN 1927/IN THIS SAME LOCATION (Plaque on front left pillar of smaller archway:) "In memory of the Illustrious dead of Cottonwood county and in honor of our living heroes who have defended us in all our wars, this archway, erected by the Windom Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary, is solemnly and respectfully dedicated this Memorial day in the year of our Lord, 1927."
    Description: 
    A double archway leading to Island Park, spans across the roadway with three pillars of pink, light, and dark brown stone. The center pillar is in the middle of the road. A narrow sign board is suspended between each pillar. Black lantern-style lights adorn the front of each side pillar and the back of the center pillar. The pillars are capped by horizontal wooden beams that span the entire archway. These in turn have ten shorter wooden beams running across them at regular intervals. A smaller replica of the archway with only two pillars is off to one side, and it has an encased announcement board suspended in the center.

    Remarks: 
    The sculptures were donated to the City of Windom Park Department by the Windom Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary and the American Legion Post as part of Celebrate Minnesota 1990. The large archway is modeled after an original erected by the Windom Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary on the same location on Memorial Day, 1927, that commemorated veterans of Cottonwood County.
