Remarks:
The plaques were carved in Italy, probably by the same artist who produced the marble plaques for the Shrine's Stations of the Cross. Novices at the Shrine erected the markers and poured the concrete bases. The granite for the markers was a gift from 22 companies in Barre, Vermont. The lights were probably added on the markers in 1991. The marker date 1954 commemorates the Marion Year of 1954; 1854 is the date of the propagation of the Doctrine of Mary's Immaculate Conception. IAS files contain detailed dimensions of each plaque, marker, and base. IAS files contain newspaper articles from Coos County Democrat dated Aug. 4, 1954 and Aug. 18, 1954; and from Manchester Union Leader, Aug. 18, 1954. IAS files contain a Shrine brochure, "Shrine of Our Lady of Grace," n.d.
