Lent by Hankin, Mark & Helene,
Provenance:
Formerly located Our Lady of Czestochowa, Doylestown, Pennsylvania 1987.
Remarks:
Cast at Tallix Foundry through the patronage of Richard Strain of Poughkeepsie. IAS files contain a summary of the work's iconography and the sculptor's objectives. The work was commissioned by Alfred Ronald, a holocaust survivor. The plaster model took nearly six years to complete. The bronze was unveiled at Our Lady of Czestochowa in observance of the 49th anniversary of Kristallnacht. It was subsequently purchased by Hankin and is on long term loan to the museum. The title of the sculpture is taken from Deuteronomy 30:15-20 and the work is a tribute to the men and women who risked their lives to rescue and protect the Jews during the Holocaust.
