Description:
Bust depicts Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca as a curly-haired man with a mustache and beard. He wears the uniform of a sixteenth century Spanish soldier, including breast plate armor, full pleated sleeves and a triangular helmet.

Donated to the City of Houston on the occasion of a visit by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain on Sept. 28, 1987. Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca (1490-1560) was a Spanish soldier and explorer who lived and explored in Texas from 1528-1536.
