The portrait was completed in 1875 after Willson's death. Daniel Tyler Willson, his parents and brothers and sister, settled in Harrisburg about 1839 from New York. With his brothers, Daniel Tyler Willson headed a firm, D. T. Willson Brothers & Co., in Harrisburg. They had a foundry and machine shops, specializing in steam engines, flour milling and agricultural machinery. IAP files contain additional biographical information on the sitter and his family.
