Remarks:
Commissioned by the City of Kansas City in memory of Dr. John Wesley Williams (1906-1988), pastor of St. Stephen Baptist Church in Kansas City and national religious and civil rights leader. Cost was approximately $35,000. The memorial siting was designed by Berkebile, Nelson, Immenschuh and McDowell, Inc. The memorial was constructed by Semi-Co Construction. IAS files include minutes of meetings of the Monument Committee, obituary of Dr. Williams, artist's comments, site plans, newspaper clippings from The Call (Kansas City, MO) and the Kansas City Star.
