    Description: 
    Portrait of Jeremiah Wadsworth (1743-1804) seated in a chair beside a table, his thirteen-year-old son Daniel (1771-1849) standing beside him, resting his hands on his father's shoulder and staring at his father's face. The father faces toward his son, though does not look directly at him. In his lap he holds a paper, others are strewn across the table and a scroll rolls out onto the floor below his chair. Several books are on the table. In the background there is a window with the mast of a sailing ship and an American flag visible.
