Remarks:
The bust was commissioned by the Catholic parish to honor the Most Reverend Augustine Verot (1805-1876), the first bishop of St. Augustine. He became bishop when the diocese was formally established in 1870 and he held that position until his death in 1876. IAS files contain related article from The Compass (Florida), Sept. 1, 1988, pg. 10-11.
