Oval portrait of Alphonso M. Sprague with his body turned slightly to the right, his head facing almost forward, and his gaze directed toward the viewer. He wears a black jacket, a white shirt, a tan vest, and a tan tie. His curly dark hair is cut short, and he has a beard that stretches from his sideburns around under his chin.

Remarks:
In 1840 Alphonso M. Sprague married Mrs. Elizabeth C. (Hunter) Oliver of Dallas County, Alabama, and later Mobile, Alabama. They couple is burried at Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama. The portrait is attributed to either William Carroll Sanders or William Frye.
