One of a series of twenty-four portraits of Cabinet members and Union officers commissioned by Providence bronze founder William C. Miller in 1863 and 1865. This series, known as the National Bronze Picture Gallery, was registered with the United States Patent Office and was exhibited in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, and Chicago. The Union League of Philadelphia has eleven of the reliefs and the Providence Public Library has two reliefs.
