Inscription:  (On letter:) 1771 Description:  Portrait of Miles Sherbrook seated at his desk with his body turned to the left, right hand holding a quill pen atop his desk and his left hand holding a letter atop his desk, and his gaze directed off to the left. He wears a brownk jacket and waistcoat with knee breeches. Scholars lost sight of the painting during the nineteenth century, and it was presumed to have vanished for good. It was rediscovered in England in 1977, and was acquired by the Chrysler Museum of Art in 1980.
