Inscription:  (Left side of sculpture:) DARIO ROSSI (Front of base, in goldleaf, incised:) CHILD READING/DONATED BY/ELBERTON CIVIL LEAGUE/1970 signed Description:  A young boy, Mauro Rossi, sits on the ground with his legs off to his proper right, his proper left elbow resting on a raised surface. He reads a book that he holds at chest level. He wears a collared shirt, belted pants, and is barefoot. A playful squirrel climbs up on his crossed proper right knee. The sculpture is mounted upon a rectangular, inscribed base. The Dixie Granite company suggested the idea for the sculpture, designed and fabricated the base. The child in the sculpture, Mauro Rossi, is the sculptor's son.
