Description:
Portrait of Methodist clergyman from Maine, Rev. John Perrin, seated at a table. His right hand holds a pen poised over a letter on the table that reads "It is an original offensive as well as defensive. With no other weapon than the gospel the Missionaries of the cross have caused the habitations of savage cruelty to be clothed with the weakness of the lamb. John Perrin. Four volumes of religious works. Decem. 1835." Several large books stand vertically on the table beside the letter.
