    Remarks:
Octavio Mendez Pereira (1887-1954) was an educator from Panama. This bust was part of a project implemented by Walter B. Fraser and Curtis Wilgus, Dean of history at George Washington University, Washington D.C., to erect statues of Latin educators in the Grove of Educators. All but four of the statues have been lost to vandalism. The remaining statues are: Grand Marshal Ramon Castilla (IAS record FL000546), Jose Trinidad Reyes (IAS record FL000547), and Jose Marti (IAS record FL000548). IAS files contain related article from The Compass (supplement to the St. Augustine Record, St. Augustine, Florida), Sept. 1, 1988, pg. 10-11 which notes that the inscription appears to say Fuse Marinelli, France.
