His donations created the Natural History section of the Wooster Museum, which was the forerunner of the Wayne County Historical Museum. The Wooster Museum was established in 1904.

James Mullins (1827-1920), a prominent businessman running coal mines and companies which he controlled from Wooster, such as the Minglewood, at North Lawrence; the Fairfield Coal Company with mines at New Waterford, OH; the State Line Coal Company, at New Palestine, OH. He was also President of the Shenango Valley and Alliance Railway Company. He is credited for his donations of taxidermy birds from the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair to the Wooster Museum that founded the Museum and established the Natural History section of the Museum. For many years served as President of Library Board of Trustees.
