    Born July 1, 1773 in Connecticut, the son of Gideon Morgan and Patience (Cogswell) Morgan. On Jan. 20, 1801 married Sara Fackler. Built the first cotton gin in Knoxville, where he operated a mercantile business. Trustee of East Tennessee College and Knoxville female Academy. Died on Aug. 19, 1851 in Red Sulphur Springs, Virginia.
