Remarks:
Presented by the Civic League of Charlottesville and Albemarle. Funded by the Civic League, and public and private contributions. The building now housing the Albemarle County Historical Society, in the garden of which this bust is located, was originally the McIntire Public Library. The bust is mounted in front of a brick wall. IAS files contain transcriptions of markings on the wall; transcription of excerpts from newspaper article, Daily Progress (Charlottesville, Virginia), June 6, 1961, which lists multiple donors, and discusses plans for the dedication; and copy of magazine article, Wilkerson, William K., and William G. Shenkir, "Paul Goodloe McIntire: Businessman and Philanthropist," The Magazine of Albemarle County History 47 (1989) which provides detailed sitter biography.
