Born in Natick, Jonathan White Loker lived most of his life in North Acton. He enlisted Sept. 7, 1861, at the age of 22, to serve in the Civil War. His name is included on the slate tablets at the entrance to the Acton Library's original building. He was a shoemaker and descendant of Resolved White, who was brother to Pererine White. In 1998, Munting reported title as "Jonathan Loker." The 1994 exhibition catalog lists the title as "Portrait of Jonathan White Loker (1839-1889)."
