    Description: 
    A full-length standing figure of African-American musician and composer Scott Joplin, wearing a short jacket with rolled sleeves, his proper right foot raised on a piano stool. Resting on the knee are music sheets printed with "MAPLE LEAF RAG," and a half-completed score, held in his proper left hand. Joplin's proper right hand is poised above his knee, holding a pen. The sculpture is mounted upon a square, polished granite base with a paneled top.

    Remarks: 
    Scott Joplin (1868-1917), was born in Texarkana, Texas, and is referred to as the "King of Ragtime." The sculpture is sited in the center of an eating area at Cypress Gardens West. IAS files contain: transcription of plaque in front of sculpture; related excerpt with biographical information on Joplin from a Sea World brochure.
