    Description: 
    John Jeremiah Johnston riding a horse. He is wearing buckskins and a fur hat with a feather. He holds a rifle in his proper left hand and the horse's reins in his proper right hand. His belt holds a pistol to his proper left side. The horse stands atop a base with an inscribed plaque mounted on it.

    Remarks: 
    Commissioned and donated by Mr. and Mrs Larry Clark, of Salt Lake City. John Jeremiah Johnston, 1824-1900, was a trapper, Indian-fighter, soldier, and scout before becoming the first Marshal of Coulson, Montana in 1882, and the first Sheriff of Red Lodge, Montana, in 1888. He died in California, but was reburied at Old Trail Town on June 8, 1974. Sculpture rests at the head of Johnston's grave. IAS files contain full transcription of plaque text and unidentified clipping on dedication.
