Description:
Full-length figure of a fisherman dressed in raincoat, rain hat and hip boots stands at a ship's wheel in a segment of a sloping boat deck. His proper right hand is on the wheel and his upraised proper left hand is clenched in a fist in a defiant gesture. The overall look is one of a wind-blown figure battling a storm.

Remarks:
Commissioned by the City of Cordova in memory of fishermen who have lost their lives in Prince William Sound. The cost was $40,000. Ivan "Buck" Johansen, a retired fisherman, was the model. The piece is installed within a protective railing surrounded by a deck on three sides. IAS files contain related articles from the Alaska Journal Commerce & Pacific Rim Reporter, Dec. 2, 1985 the Cordova Times, Nov. 29, 1985 and the Anchorage Times, Dec. 13, 1985.
