Remarks:
The portrait was painted from a photograph several years after the death of William Perry Hollingsworth. William Perry Hollingsworth was born on April 22, 1828 in St. Clair County, Alabama and died on April 26, 1879 in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama (buried in Forrest Cemetery). He was the son of Diana and Jacob James Hollingsworth. On Nov. 27, 1851 he married Mary Josephine Lewis, and they had the following children: Anne Dorothy, Laura Josephine, Katie Mae, Willie Augusta, Edward Tracy, and Mary Alice Hollingsworth. He was a merchant and was Mayor of Gadsden, Alabama. He served as Captain in the "Gadsden Guards" in August 1861, and later Major, Company D, 19th Alabama Volunteer Infantry Regiment, C.S.A.
