    Remarks: 
    The artist, William McVey, was a tackle and guard at Rice University when Heisman was a coach there. One plaque in front of sculpture reads: JOHN W. HEISMAN/1869-1936/"A TEAM THAT WON'T BE BEAT/CAN'T BE BEAT!"/"IN THE LEXICON OF FOOTBALL THERE IS/NO SUCH WORD AS FAIL." Other plaque in front of sculpture reads: JOHN W. HEISMAN/1869-1936/(record as player and coach follows)/SCULPTOR WILLIAM M. MCVEY/1923-6, RICE TACKLE & GUARD.
