    Description: 
    Portals are adorned with reliefs of figures representing the history and folklore of western Pennsylvania. At center of south portico is Pittsburgh coat-of-arms, flanked on the left by Christopher Gist, a frontiersman. On the right is Guyasuta, Seneca tribe leader. North portico depicts legendary Joe Magarac and Jan Volkanik, coalfield hero.

    Remarks: 
    The portals were saved when the Manchester Bridge was demolished in 1970. IAS files contain a photocopy of a photograph of the model for the Manchester Bridge Portal from the files of the Art Commission of the City of Pittsburgh files at Carnegie-Mellon University Architecture Archives.
