(Back of obelisk:) M. Muldoon and Co. (Front of obelisk:) "Would you know his worth, Ask his neighbor, his city, His State and his country." (Bronze plaque on front of obelisk give a short biography of James Guthrie) unsigned Founder's mark appears.
Description:
A medallion, featuring the head of James Guthrie in profile, is mounted on an obelisk. The obelisk has an inscription and an inscribed plaque.

Remarks:
The bronze medallion was modeled by Bullett and cast in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The memorial was erected by James Guthrie's daughters: Mary, Augusta, and Sarah. The inscribed plaque was added later. Guthrie, 1782-1869, was a prominent Kentucky politician who eventually became U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and a Senator. IAS files contain complete transcription of plaque inscription. IAS files also contain related information from Samuel W. Thomas' "Cave Hill Cemetery," Louisville, KY: Cave Hill Cemetery Co., 1985, pg. 24.
