Description:
Large marble structure with a semi-circular bronze middle section consisting of two portrait reliefs located on either side of an inscription. The reliefs of Stasys Girenas and Stephonas Darius, two Chicago fliers who died trying to establish a record flight time between New York and the capital of Lithuania, show the men in profile. Each face looks toward the center inscription section commemorating their historic flight. At the top of the structure is a bronze globe which shows their planes flying from New York to Lithuania.

Remarks:
Charles Koncevec was the architect for the monument and Raoul Josset was the sculptor who created the bronze reliefs of the pilots. IAS files contain a copy the address given at the Darius-Girenas memorial service held in Marquette Park on July 19, 1936.
