Description:  Portrait of a boy, possibly Richard Crossfield, standing with his right arm resting on a table, an open book held in his right hand. His left hand rests on his him. Behind him is a shelf with books. Remarks:  The painting descended in the Crossfield family as a depiction of the son of shipbuilder Stephen Crossfield, Sr., but no reference to a son named Richard has be found.
