Solomon Williams Clanton, M.D. (born Aug. 12, 1826; died March 1, 1858) was from Sumter County, Alabama, and was the older brother of William H. Clanton (IAP record no. 9D640059). The painting is illustrated in "An Antebellum Physician," by Robert Mellown published in Alabama Heritage, Summer 1999, Vol. XIV, pg. 46-48.
