Inscription:  (copyright symbol) CA signed Description:  A Pawnee Indian standng triumphant over a slain southern Cheyenne Indian. The Pawnee Indian holds a spear in his upraised proper left hand and grasps the Indian's buffalo horn mask in his lowered proper right hand. According to legend, a Southern Cheyenne named Alights on a Cloud (who wore a shirt of mail left from Spanish Conquistadors) terrorized the local Pawnee tribal members. A Pawnee named Carries His Shield in Front killed Alights on a Cloud using three magical arrows. The sculpture was temporarily installed in front of Home State Bank on North Cleveland Avenue, before being moved to its permanent location on the reconstructed North Lincoln Avenue, part of a city beautification program. The violent content of the sculpture and its prominent roadside placement at the entrance to the city sparked controversy when the piece was first installed.
