    Description: 
    Seven vignettes appear in relief on a serpentine-shaped wall. The vignettes depict African-American history, starting with life in Africa, slavery in the U. S., emancipation, farming, black contributions to music and sports, and ending with the Civil Rights Movement. Among those depicted in the vignettes: Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcom X, Thurgood Marshall, Mary McCloud, Frederick Douglas, Althea Gibson, John Carlos and Mohammed Ali.

    The project was funded by a CETA grant to the Columbus Institute of Contemporary Arts. The Ohio Arts Council provided an additional $3,000 for materials. IAS files contain articles from the Columbus Citizen Journal dated May 31, 1978 and July 9, 1990; and the Columbus Dispatch dated August 1, 1978 and March 18, 1979.
