KNAPHUS (Plaque on base:) Simon Bamberger/Governor of Utah 1917-1921/Constructed Lake Park Resort in 1886 on the/shore of Great Salt Lake - 3 miles SW of here/After the lake receded he drained a large meadow/forming a lagoon along Farmington Creek and/moved several of the buildings to the present site./Lagoon, midway between Ogden and Salt Lake/City was opened on July 13, 1896 and was served by/the Bamberger Railroad, which he built. The rails/on this monument were used on that railroad. His foresight and accomplishment have brought/pleasure to this area for over a half century/Erected by his son/Julian M.
