Description:
Two fighting stallions stand on an octagonal base. Both stallions are rearing up on their hind legs, and are locked in combat. Plaques with likenesses of the eight men honored by this memorial appear on each side of the base.

Remarks:
Commissioned by the South Dakota legislature in memory of George Mickelson, Governor of South Dakota, Ron Becker, Roland Dolly, David Hansen and Ron Reed, state employees and Angus Anson, David Birkeland and Roger Hainje, Sioux Falls businessmen who died in a plane crash on April 19, 1993. South Dakotans contributed funding, labor and in-kind donations. Sculpture is an enlargement of an 18 inch mahogany sculpture carved by Korczak Ziolkowski in 1935. IAS files include the text of a nearby commemorative plaque and related articles from the Aberdeen American News, April 20, 1994; the Rapid City Journal, April 19, 1994; and the Capital Journal (Pierre, SD) April 13, 1994 and April 20, 1994.
