Remarks:
Owner reported that the sitter, Josiah Adams, was born Nov. 3, 1781, the son of Moses Adams; was graduated from Harvard College in 1801; began practicing law in Framingham, MA, shortly after being admitted to the bar in June 1807; married Jane Park of Windham, NH, on Feb. 1, 1810. Adams was also the first president of the Framingham Bank, a member of the Governor's Council, Chairman of the Board of County Comissioners, and a member of the Massachusetts Legislature. From 1820 to 1852, Adams was a trustee of Framingham Academy. He was also one of the group which organized the Social Library, the early forerunner of the present Framingham Town Library system. Josiah Adams died in 1854 at the age of 73.
